Man targets divorced women through social media, complaint lodged

BENGALURU: A man, who targets rich and divorced women through social media, then gets married and cheats them by taking away money and gold ornaments, is now on the radar of the city police. A case has been filed against accused Pradeep Kumar at the Kumaraswamy Layout police station in Bengaluru.

The accused, who contacted a rich divorced woman through social media, claimed to be also a divorcee and gained her trust by saying he liked her and proposed to get married. After marrying her, he asked for money to start a new business and promised her that he would return it. But he decamped with lakhs of rupees from her.

The victim, a 40-year-old woman from Kumaraswamy Layout had got Rs 80 lakh and half a kg of gold jewellery from her ex-husband’s family during their separation. The accused knew about this, contacted her through Facebook, gained her trust by saying he wanted to marry her and then married her in 2022. He took away Rs 55 lakh and 200 grams of gold jewellary from her and escaped.

A case has been filed at the Kumaraswamy Layout police station and further investigation is under way.
