BENGALURU: A Bihar native was arrested for suffocating his wife to death at Nanjareddy Layout near Vabasandra in Bommasandra. The couple had shifted to a rented house just a week ago.
The victim has been identified as Barsapriya Darsani (21), a native of Odisha. The accused husband is Sohan Kumar (26). The couple were living in a rented house owned by Sanjay Yadav.
The owner’s wife heard the couple’s child crying around midnight and came out of her house. When she spotted Sohan Kumar, he fled the scene.
Upon entering the room, she discovered the murder. The Jigani police visited the spot and conducted an investigation. The body was shifted to the mortuary of Oxford Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Barsapriya Darsani, who came to Bengaluru from Odisha on May 3 to be with her husband, met a tragic end at his hands. She had defied her parents’ wishes to be with her husband and ultimately lost her life.
According to Santosh, a neighbour who hails from Bihar, “The couple had married three years ago in Tamil Nadu after falling in love. However, Sohan’s family did not accept Barsapriya and they had gone to Bihar after the marriage. Later, Barsapriya went to her hometown in Odisha with her husband, but Sohan came to Bengaluru two years ago, leaving his pregnant wife behind. He didn’t visit his wife and child even after the child was born”.
Barsapriya’s parents were upset with Sohan and wanted to get their daughter married to another person, but she refused and chose to be with her husband. She came to Bengaluru only to meet a tragic end, Santosh said.
