MYSURU: A man, who had stolen a 60 gm gold chain and later had a grand engagement ceremony was murdered and his body burnt near Gumchanahalli in Mysuru taluk. The police have arrested eight people for the murder and are on the lookout for the main accused.
On April 18, the Jayapura police had found the body, which was still burning at that time, and registered a case. During investigation, the murder came to light and the accused were arrested.
The victim Mohan Kumar (31) was working as a manager at a lodge at Bogadi in Mysuru where the main accused Srinivas would regularly visit to gamble. Srinivas had got a 60 gm gold chain belonging to his wife for gambling, but since it was a full moon day, he could not pawn it with a jeweller, police said.
Srinivas had kept the gold chain under a pillow in a room at the lodge which Mohan Kumar stole. The latter then pawned the gold chain at his native village Byadarapura in Chamarajanagar district and had a grand engagement ceremony. A case had been registered in connection with the theft at the Saraswatipuram police station.
Srinivas, along with his associates, picked up Mohan Kumar from his house and took him in a car and murdered him. They also burnt his body near Gumchanahalli in broad daylight and had escaped, police said.
The arrested include Prajwal, Chandu, Kabir, Kalaiah and Darshan. The police are on the lookout for Srinivas, who is absconding.
