Man stabs girlfriend near notary’s office for refusing marriage proposal

HASSAN: A man stabbed his girlfriend with a knife at Alur in the district after she refused to marry him. The accused is currently absconding while the victim is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Hassan for injuries sustained in both the hands and face.

The accused Mohit and the woman are from Karagodu village and had been in love with each other for two years. However, the woman had recently distanced herself from Mohith. Despite this, Mohith had been pressuring her to marry him.

Fed up with Mohit’s harassment, the  womanin formed her family about this. Later, both families agreed to a compromise and held discussions to ensure that neither family would harass the other. Subsequently, members from both families, accompanied by village elders, visited a notary’s office in Alur to sign an agreement.

At this point, Mohit, who was intoxicated, came by car and suddenly attacked the woman with a sharp weapon, leaving her badly injured in the hands and head. He then fled the scene after the attack.

The victim is undergoing treatment at a hospital in Hassan.

The police have registered a case and have taken up further investigation after recording the statements from the victim’s family members. They are also on the lookout for the accused.

The family of the victim is now demanding justice for the woman. The victim’s father alleged that the accused had been harassing his daughter, sending obscene messages on Instagram, and had also sent indecent messages to her friends.

The father said, “She was working in Bengaluru. We called her to town to file a complaint, having no other option. There is no protection for women. The accused came by car and attacked our daughter with a sharp weapon”.

The victim’s family had previously filed a complaint at Alur police station, but no action was taken. The father has urged the authorities to take strict action against the accused.
