Man stabs brother-in-law to death over dowry harassment in Mysuru

MYSURU: A man stabbed his brother-in-law (wife’s brother) to death over dowry issue in Kuvempu Nagar here on Saturday. The deceased has been identified as Abhishek (27) and the accused is Ravichandra.

An argument broke out between the brothers-in-law over the dowry issue and ended in murder. Ravichandra had allegedly asked for Rs 5 lakh from his wife’s family to open a gym and used to harass his wife Vidya daily for dowry. Vidya called her brother while they were arguing.

As Vidya’s brother Abhishek entered home, Ravichandra closed the door and suddenly stabbed him with a knife right in front of Vidya and killed him. He also assaulted Abhishek’s mother Bhagyamma and his younger sister.

The parents of Vidya and Ravichandra got them married four years ago in a grand ceremony and gave him dowry. After six months, Ravichandra allegedly started harassing his wife for more dowry.

It is alleged that the police did not respond, although complaint was lodged at the Kuvempu Nagar police station many times. The police visited the place, conducted an investigation, and registered a case.
