BELAGAVI: A man allegedly slashed the face of an anganwadi assistant with a sharp weapon after some children plucked flowers from his compound, at Basurte village in the taluk two days ago. The woman, who was left bleeding severely, is now undergoing treatment at a hospital.
The house of Kalyani More is adjacent to the anganwadi centre and some children allegedly plucked some flowers from his compound. Angered by this, Kalyani More slit the nose of anganwadi assistant Sugandha More with a sharp weapon.
However, anganwadi teacher Meera More said the anganwadi has no toilets and children are forced to relieve themselves by the roadside. This angered the adjacent house owner, she said. So far, the accused has not been arrested, she added. “He was about to chop off her head, but I held his hand and Sugandha sustained injury in the face. I took up a big stone and he ran away”, she said. “We have informed the officials about the lack of toilets, but nothing has been done so far”, she added.
“The anganwadi worker and the accused are said to be relatives and had some domestic dispute. The two had got into an argument and when the anganwadi assistant intervened, she was attacked. Doctors have said she is out of danger. We have brought the issue to the notice of the minister also. An FIR has also been filed”, said Belagavi Rural Child Development Project (CDPO) Sumitra.
The incident occurred in the home district of Women and Child Development Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar. The Kakati police have registered a case.
