CHIKKAMAGALUR: Girls think the world of their fathers, but here’s a man in Chikkamagalur who’s a blot on the name. He’s the reason the word ‘father’ has become synonymous with evil. The man and mother are accused of pushing his 16-year-old daughter into prostitution for money. The girl’s mother had died six years ago, and she was living with her father and grandma.
The girl went wherever her dad took her, but he and his mother sold her to prostitution and even sexually abused her. They got 10 people to abuse her in six days, even when she was on her periods. The village in Ajjampur, Chikkamagaluru district, is where these monsters are from, but the crime happened in Mangaluru.
The father, Girish, took his daughter to Mangaluru through a broker, Narayana Swamy, and introduced her to Bharat Shetty. Over 10 people abused the girl in a span of six days. When she resisted, they said they’d paid her father and Bharat Shetty.
The girl later told her uncle and aunt, who filed a complaint with Birur police. The police have arrested Girish, his mother Nagarathna, Narayana Swamy, Bharat Shetty, and others involved.
“A complaint was lodged at Birur police station regarding sexual assault of a minor. The case was taken seriously and a total of 12 people have been arrested so far. The other accused will be arrested and a case has been registered under the POCSO Act”, said Police Superintendent C T Jayakumar.
Social activist Radha Sundaresh said, “The girl’s father and grandmother had forced her into prostitution. Only money was important to them. It is shameful that he sold his daughter into prostitution”.
