KOPPAL: A man murdered his wife, who was four months pregnant, stuffed her body in a gunny bag and threw it into an open well on someone else’s farm, at Talakanakapura in Koppal taluk. The murder occurred a few days ango and the husband has since been arrested. The body was fished out of the well on Wednesday night by the Fire and Emergency Services personnel.
Babu Pariyar and Sangeetha (25) had got married five years ago and the couple have two children. Sangeetha, who haled from Almatti in Vijayapura district, was four months pregnant with their third child. However, it is said that Babu would quarrel with his wife from the time of marriage and was constantly harassing her.
A few days ago, after an argument, he killed Sangeetha, packed her body in a gunny bag and threw it into a well on a farm. Police Superintendent Ram Lal Arasiddi said Sangeetha’s parents lodged a missing person’s complaint at the Koppal women’s police station a few days ago and pointed a finger of suspicion at Babu.
“Sangeetha’s mother Hamunavva had filed the complaint that she was missing from September 14 and had expressed suspicion about Sangeetha’s husband. When we questioned Babu, he admitted to having killed her with a stone and dumping the body in a well. Further investigation is on. The SOCO team and canine squad have visited the spot and collected evidence”, the SP said.
