Man kills son-in-law over intercaste marriage in Jamakhandi village

BAGALKOT: A man hacked his son-in-law to death after throwing chilli powder at his face for marrying his daughter of a different caste despite opposition, at Takkoda village in Jamakhandi taluk on Saturday night.

Bhujabala Karjagi (34), a Jain, had married Bhagyashree, daughter of Tammanagouda, who belongs to the Kshatriya caste and both hailed from the same village. About a year ago, both eloped to get married and returned to live in the village.

However, Tammanagouda was opposed to the marriage, and brutally hacked Karjagi to death near the Hanuman temple in the village. The Savalagi police have registered a case and are on the lookout for three people involved in the murder.
