BELAGAVI: A man, who had borrowed Rs 2,000 from a friend was unable to repay it, killed him and surrendered before the police on Monday. The incident occurred at Giriyala village of Bailhongal taluk leaving the villagers in shock.

The deceased was identified as Manjunath Goudar (30), a resident of Giriyala village. It is alleged that Manjunath had borrowed Rs 2,000 from his friend Dayanand Gundlur last week, promising to repay the amount within a week. However, when Dayanand asked for the money back, a dispute arose between the two friends, which eventually turned violent.

In a fit of rage, Dayanand allegedly killed Manjunath by striking him on the head with a machete early in the morning. Manjunath succumbed to his injuries and died before he could be taken to the hospital. After learning that the police were looking for him, Dayanand surrendered, admitting to the crime.
