Even after almost a year, the municipal corporation has not rectified the error.

GADAG: In a bizarre incident, the Lakshmeshwar municipal council in Gadag district has mistakenly declared a living person dead and issued a death certificate. Nagaraj Mahadevappa Hampanvar had applied for his brother’s death certificate, but the authorities mistakenly registered him as deceased in the e-janma software.

Despite providing all necessary documents, Nagaraj has been unable to prove that he is alive, and his death certificate has caused him to lose access to government schemes and benefits, including his Aadhaar card. The municipality officials have acknowledged the mistake and sent a request to senior authorities to cancel the death certificate, citing a technical error, but nothing has been done even after 10 months.

Nagaraj has been struggling to get the issue resolved for nearly a year, and his situation remains unchanged despite the municipality’s acknowledgement of the mistake. The incident has sparked public outrage, with many criticizing the authorities’ negligence.
