BENGALURU: Despite the triple talaq practice being banned in India, a man allegedly pronounced triple talaq to his wife over the phone, ending their 8-year-old marriage in just 10 seconds in Gangondanahalli area in the city.
The accused is named Shabaaz Ali, a resident of the area. Though triple talaq has been abolished by law, the woman is depressed and has been contemplating ending her life. Meanwhile, the husband has told his divorced wife that the law and police department cannot do anything to him.
Shabaaz Ali had been married to his wife for 8 years and had a normal life with her. However, he would often mentally harass his wife because they didn’t have children. Shabaaz Ali owns five meat shops and allegedly got angry with his wife when she asked him to keep the shop clean.
The victim’s father has alleged that Shabaaz Ali had developed hatred towards his daughter after he asked him to close down an illegal slaughter house business. Shabaaz Ali had reportedly married another woman a year ago and had given her talaq as well. “Even after the ban on triple talaq, my daughter’s life was ruined”, the father lamented.
The victim’s family is planning to fight a legal battle and the police have taken cognizance of the matter. The incident has sparked outrage, and the victim’s family is demanding action against Shabaaz Ali.
In a shocking revelation, Shabaaz Ali reportedly held a meeting with Islamic leaders and claimed that the talaq was valid. When the victim’s family objected, Shabaaz Ali’s supporters allegedly attacked them. The victim’s family is now seeking justice and protection under the law.
Tanzia, the victim, said, “I got triple talaq from my husband. The case will not stand before a court. Everything was fine. He went some place for 21 days and after he returned, he said he never pronounced talaq. I need justice from the court. Even though triple talaq is banned, he pronounced talaq three times over the phone in August and never called back. He always heeds his sister’s word and I do not know what to do next.”
Tanzia’s father Mujahid Ahmed, said, “The family of my son-in-law has meted out injustice to us. They abandoned my daughter and now she is suffering. He has already given talaq to two other women, and now he pronounced talaq to my daughter. I told him to close down the illegal slaughterhouse. In a fit of rage, he took revenge on my daughter. I am ready to fight in the court to get justice”.
