Man ends life in Tungabhadra river with three children in Mundargi taluk, bodies fished out

While the body of one child was found on Wednesday evening, the others were found on Thursday morning.

GADAG: A man ended his life by jumping into the Tungabhadra river after throwing three children into the water following at domestic dispute from the Korlahalli bridge in Mundargi taluk on November 5 evening. The bodies of all the four were fished out of the water on Thursday after a relentless search operation.

The deceased are Manjunath Rajappa Arakeri (41) of Maktumpura, his children Dhanya (6) and Pavan Kumar (4), and nephew Vedant (3). While the body of Vedant was found on Wednesday evening, the others were retrieved from the water on Thursday morning. The Fire and Emergency Services, NDRF and local fishermen had conducted a search over the last two days.

The bodies were sent to the Mundargi taluk hospital for post-mortem examination. Later, a mass burial was conducted in the village. A pall of gloom had descended over Maktumpura and surrounding villages following the deaths.

Police Superintendent B S Nemagouda said the fire service, police and local fishermen were involved in the search and revenue officers too had visited the spot. “Premilinary investigation has revealed domestic dispute and we will register as case against Manjunath. A protection wall, lighting and police patrol will be introduced at the spot”, he had said on Wednesday.
