BENGALURU: A man committed suicide by jumping in front of a moving train at Kengeri Metro station on the Purple Line around 8.25 on Friday morning. The deceased has been identified as Shanthanagouda Patil (38), hailing from Vijayapura.

He was residing in Rajajinagar with his wife and child and was said to be suffering from mental depression. However, the exact cause of the suicide was not immediately known.

The Kengeri police visited the site and conducted an inspection. Metro staff informed the police and police and medical personnel removed the body from the track. The body was shifted to the Rajarajeshwari Medical College for post-mortem examination.

Shanthanagouda’s Preethi visited the hospital along with their infant for the autopsy. The suicide caused a disruption in train operations on the Purple Line, leading to the suspension of Metro services from Challaghatta to Nayandahalli for some time. The Metro service later resumed as normal.

Shanthanagouda had parked his motorcycle at the parking lot and told the parking attendant that his friend would collect the vehicle. It is suspected that he came to the Metro station with the intention of committing suicide.
