BENGALURU: A house owner has been accused of duping about 22 people of over Rs 2 crore after assuring them to give the property on lease to them and collecting Rs 8-13 lakh from them. The victims have now approached the Central Crime Branch (CCB) police after the Hebbal police allegedly failed to act.
The accused Girish has posted pictures of the house at Chola Nagar near Hebbal on the NoBroker app stating that it was up for lease. He took money from 22 people after promising them to lease out the property to them. After he went missing, the victims lodged a complaint with the Hebbal police station.
According to the victims, he had called them individually, promising to lease out the property to them. When they questioned when it would be available, he gave excuses saying that renovation work was on, and that there was some issue with the present tenant. He had even claimed that his father, who is alive, had passed away and shed tears on phone calls.
Girish had even issued cheques to some of them in the name of his wife Deepa, in whose name the house is registered, his sisters-in-law Roopa and Saritha. But the cheques had bounced for various reasons like mismatch of signature, wrong spelling, etc. Saritha had even given an undertaking to some of the victims that their money would be returned.
After the Hebbal police allegedly failed to act, the victims have now approached the CCB police. In the meanwhile, Girish is said to be absconding.
