Man dead, many injured as chariot topples during Madduramma temple fair in Anekal

BENGALURU: One devotee died and several others were injured after a temple chariot toppled over and fell on them during the Madduramma temple fair at Huskur  in Anekal taluk on Saturday.

Over 150 chariots, each over 100 feet tall, had arrived for the festival. The accident happened while the chariots weres being pulled in procession.

The Madduramma temple fair has a history of hundreds of years. Earlier, oxen were used to pull the chariots, but now, tractors and oxen are used chariots. This year, the tallest chariot was built to showcase the village’s pride. However, due to strong winds and rain, the chariot fell to the ground.

Many people who were on the chariot were injured. Last year, a similar incident occurred in Heelalige. Today’s accident was caused by heavy rain and strong winds.
