BELAGAVI: A 55-year-old man, who was admitted to a private hospital here, died on Tuesday night, allegedly due to medical negligence. The family of the deceased has since lodged a complaint at the Tilakwadi police station.

Parashuram Bharamanayak, a resident of Shahpur, was admitted to Dakshata Hospital here on April 15 for treatment of a wound in the leg. However, as he was diabetic, the wound had not healed. On Tuesday night, Parashuram developed acidity and the family informed the doctors.

A minor scuffle ensued when the family members tried to snatch the patient history file.

However, the family alleged, the doctors took half an hour to get the requisite equipment. “If they had arranged the equipment sooner, my father could have been saved”, said the victim’s son Bharamanayak.

He also alleged that the doctors tried to tamper with the patient history. When one of the hospital management staff was carrying the file, the family got into a scuffle with the hospital authorities. Later, a complaint was filed with the Tilakwadi police.

The body of the decased was shifted to the BIMS Hospital for post-mortem examination. The police have taken up further investigation.
