BENGALURU: The Girinagar police have arrested a man for damaging a bust of late Siddaganga Math seer Shivakumara Swamy, who was popularly known as the ‘walking god’. The bust was installed near the bus stop at Veerabhadra Nagar and was damaged in the wee hours on Sunday.

Following the incident, locals had lodged a complaint with the police. The arrested Raj Shivu claimed that Jesus Christ appeared in his dream and instructed him to damage the bust. “Because Yesu told me to, I damaged the bust”, he told the police.

Raj Shivu, a resident of Byadarahalli, had converted to Christianity seven years ago and said he hates Hindu gods, saints and seers. In the wee hours on Sunday, when no one was around, he damaged the bust with a hammer, he admitted.

Police said Raj Shivu would also propagate Christianity by distributing pamphlets which contained a QR code. When scanned, it would take one to the Bible. He has since been sent to judicial custody following his arrest.
