SHIVAMOGGA: A man has been arrested for sending boxes of sweet laced with poison to three people in the name of BJP MLC Dhananjay Sarji on the occasion of New Year. He has since been remanded to judicial custody.
The boxes of sweets laced with poison had been sent to the secretary of the NES Educational Institution, Nagaraj, Dr Aravind and Dr Pavitra in the name of Dhananjay Sarji, who is also a popular paediatrician. Nagaraj had opened the box and consumed the sweet only to find it bitter.
Nagaraj immediately informed another MLC, D S Arun, who, in turn, called Dhananjay and inquired where the boxes of sweets were procured from. Sarji then informed Arun that he had not sent any sweet boxes to anyone. Luckily, the two other doctors had not opened the sweet boxes.
Sarji then lodged a complaint with the police through his personal assistant. The police later found that the boxes of sweet were sent by Souharda Patel (26), who is pursuing a law course at NES Institution.
Souharda Patel had fallen in love with the daughter of a doctor. After Nagaraj came to know of this, he had summoned Patel’s parents and dissuaded Patel from pursuing the girl. Since he was upset, Patel’s parents took him to Dr Aravind and Dr Pavithra for treatment. Patel was angry that he was made to consume a lot of drugs. He also knew that MLC Sarji was close to the two doctors and Nagaraj and hence couriered the boxes of sweets to them, police said.
