Man commits suicide after posting video on Facebook

BENGALURU: A man from Anekal taluk, who was a BJP worker, committed suicide after posting a video on Facebook about how he was brutally assaulted by a group of people who were demanding return of loans. The deceased has been identified as Praveen Gowda. He posted the video on Facebook.

Gowda detailed the reason behind his suicide and mentioned that he has been mentally distressed for the past two months while blaming specific individuals for his situation. In the video, he accuses Anekal municipal council member Bhagya Srinivas Gowda, Shweta Gowda, Kiran Gowda, Muniraju Gowda and Bhaskar of being responsible for his death.

 The deceased’s mother is now demanding justice for her son’s death. A case has been registered at the Anekal police station.

Praveen’s sister Soumya said, “He had given a loan to Shweta and had asked her to return the money. When Shweta didn’t pay despite several days, Praveen went to her house to ask for the money. Shweta is a relative of municipal council member Bhagyalakshmi Srinivas. Shweta and her people called Praveen for a discussion about the money. The discussion took place at the house of BJP leader Nayanahalli Muniraju Gowda. During this time, over 20 people assaulted Praveen Gowda. People from Shweta’s side snatched his phone and assaulted him. BJP leader Muniraju Gowda, Srinivas and municipal council member Bhagyalakshmi are accused. Shweta’s friend Kiran also abused Praveen over the phone. Praveen was tortured by Kiran Gowda, Harish, Bhaskar Narayanappa, Madhu Gowda and Saravana. Praveen was tortured so that he wouldn’t ask Shweta for the money. Praveen took his own life due to this harassment, she added.

A complaint was lodged by Praveen’s mother, Saraswathamma. An FIR has been registered against eight people under Section 108 of the BNS Act at Anekal police station. Those named include Kiran Gowda, Srinivas Babu, Harish, Bhaskar Narayanappa, Madhu Gowda, Bhagya, Muniraju Gowda and Saravana.
