Man burnt alive after moving car catches fire near Nelamangala

The driver of the car was burnt alive.

BENGALURU: One person was burnt alive after the car he was driving caught fire on the national highway near Anchepalya in Nelamangala taluk on Tuesday. The identity of the deceased was not yet known.

The car (KA 04 NB 5879) was moving when it suddenly caught fire which soon engulfed the whole vehicle, giving the driver little chance to escape. As a result of the incident, there was a traffic jam on the highway for some time.

Santhosh, an eyewitness, said they tried to open the doors of the car, but it was locked from inside. “We tried to break open the windows, but the intensity of the fire was too much. We even stopped some KSRTC buses and used their extinguishers, but it was of no use. We then called the fire tenders who put out the blaze, but the driver was completely burnt”.

There was a traffic jam on the road for some time.

“The incident occurred around 3 pm and there was only one person in the car. It caught fire even as it was moving. The driver was strapped to the seat”, said Nagendra Bhat, another eyewitness.

The Fire and Emergency Services personnel doused the fire and extricated the charred body. The Nelamangala police have registered a case.
