KOPPAL, BALLARI: A man attempted suicide by consuming pesticide after his nursing wife died following a C-section at the Ballari district hospital here on Friday evening. He is since recovering at a hospital in Gangavathi.
Raja’s wife Roja was among three women who died after undergoing C-section at the Ballari district hospital. The couple had fallen in love and got married and were excited about their first child. Upset over his wife’s death, Raja attempted suicide, but is now recovering. Roja hailed from Yemmiganooru in Kurugodu taluk.
Three of seven nursing mothers had died in a span of one week after having delivered through C-section at the Ballari district hospital on November 9. While Nandini and Lalithamma died the very next day, Rojamma died on November 13. The other four women are in the intensive care unit at the Ballari Institute of Medical Sciences (BIMS).
It is suspected that the women died due to medical complications arising during treatment. They had been administered IV fluids supplied by the Karnataka State Medical Supplies Corporation Limited (KSMSCL) following which their health deteriorated. The IV fluids were reportedly sourced from a private medical supplier in West Bengal.
