Man arrested for abusing burqa-clad woman travelling with Hindu man on two-wheeler

BENGALURU: The East division CEN police have arrested one person for abusing a burqa-clad woman for travelling on a motorcycle with a man from another community. The accused had even shot a video of the incident which went viral on social media. The arrested accused has since been remanded to judicial custody.

In the video, the man stops the duo on the motorcycle and can be heard abusing the woman in vulgar language and asking her to take off the burqa for disrespecting the religion. The woman can be heard retorting to the man, but he continues to abuse her.

On August 25, a X user @BefittingFacts posted, “This is happening in Bangalore. @PriyankKharge, A lady in Burqa is being harassed by muslims for roaming with a Hindu man. See the language being used against her. They are literally asking her to remove her burqa. @BlrCityPolice Please take strict action against them”. The user had tagged RDPR Minister Priyank Kharge too in the post.

On Sunday, Deputy Commissioner of Police Dr Bheemashankar S Guled, responded to the post on X, stating, “Case was registered immediately in Cyber crime police sttaion east Bangalore and within 24 hrs, police have nabbed the accused”. The city police also posted, “Pertaining to this incident, FIR has been registered in CEN Police Station, East Division. One accused has also been arrested. Investigation is underway”.

It is learnt that the burqa-clad woman and the motorcycle rider are known to each other and had attended an interview at a private firm. The man was dropping off the woman home when they were accosted by the accused and a few others.

The accused Zakir Ahmed hails from Kolar and is pursuing medical education in Russia. He had come to his sister’s house at Govindapura in Bengaluru for holidays.
