VIJAYAPURA: In a major breakthrough in the double murder case that was reported in Kannur village, the police have shot and injured the main accused, Akshay Juljule, while he was trying to escape and attack the police.
Akshay Juljule was shot in the leg on the outskirts of Kannur village when the police were trying to apprehend him and four other accused in connection with the double murder of Sagar Bellundagi and Ishaq Queshri.
According to Police Superintendent Lakshman Nimbaragi, who visited the scene of the shootout on Tuesday, Akshay attempted to attack the police and escape, leading to the police firing and injuring him in the leg.
“The police team acting on credible information about the accused’s whereabouts. The police used necessary force to subdue Akshay and prevent him from escaping. He has been arrested and is undergoing treatment for his injuries. Two police personnel were also injured during the incident”, he said.
Sagar Bellundagi and Ishaq Queshri were killed by smashing their heads with stones in Kannuru village. The police investigation revealed that Akshay played a key role in the murder, which was a revenge attack over a previous incident. In 2023, Akshay and others had attacked Eerannagouda Batta, who later died after eight months of treatment. The murder was allegedly a revenge killing.
The police are investigating the case further and gathering evidence.
