MANDYA: Three days after stones were pelted at a Ganesha idol immersion procession at Ram Rahim Nagar in Maddur, normalcy returned to the town on Thursday. Shops and business establishments were open and vehicles moved freely, but heavy police presence was still visible.

After the stone-pelting incident on Sunday evening, the town witnessed protests on Monday while a bandh was observed on Tuesday. On Wednesday, a mass immersion of Ganesha idols was carried out in a huge procession in which BJP state leaders also took part.

Meanwhile, the police, who have arrested 22 people in connection with the stone-pelting, have formed three teams to look for seven more people who were part of the incident.

The police have also filed an FIR against a woman protester for alleged abusive comments against the chief minister and the Muslim community. The FIR was filed against Shivapura resident Jyothi on a suo motu complaint registered by Maddur police inspector Shivakumar.
