DAVANAGERE: The Jagalur police have solved a 32-year-old hit-and-run case with the arrest of the accused, Gangadharappa (67), a lorry driver from Arasikere in Hassan district. The arrest after three decades is being hailed as a significant breakthrough.
In 1994, Gangadharappa had driven his lorry over a pedestrian on the old National Highway-13 near Kalledhevarapura village in Jagalur taluk, killing him instantly. The accused had gone into hiding after the incident, and a case was registered against him at Jagalur police station.
Police tracked him down, and he was arrested by CPI Siddaramaiah and ASI Venkatesh G T. The accused was produced before the Jagalur court and remanded to judicial custody.
