BENGALURU: Senior BJP leader and former chief minister B S Yediyurappa has called for “getting rid of this (Congress) government as soon as possible. “If we make up our minds, we can shake the Assembly. Let’s strengthen and build the party until the next government is formed”, he said at a party workers’ meeting here on Sunday.
Speaking at the meeting held at Mahalakshmi Layout , Yediyurappa said, “Let’s get rid of the government. For that, I am protesting by sitting under the Gandhi statue near Vidhana Soudha. Everyone should join hands”. He also encouraged party workers to work for the BJP’s win in next year’s Lok Sabha elections.
“BJP is in power in 14 states. People have got cheated by believing the Congress’ guarantees in Karnataka. We could not even win 100 seats due to the Congress lies. We have to fight outside and inside the Assembly. The government promised free bus travel for women and imposed some conditions later on. This is an insult to women. We have to fight the Congress at every step. There are 65 BJP MLAs, this is not a small number and there is no need to think about it. We have to get on the street and create awareness among the public by visiting every house and demanding that the Congress fulfill the guarantees”, Yediyurappa added.
Some BJP workers created a ruckus at the party meeting, demanding action against those leaders who, they alleged, had engaged in anti-party activities during the Assembly polls.
Some outraged party workers, intervening during Dasarahalli MLA Muniraju’s speech, said that ordinary party activists are not getting a chance to grow. “If an activist makes a mistake, the party leadership will come to know. Then why don’t you say anything when the same leaders make mistakes? Why didn’t you talk when Yediyurappa stepped down from the post of CM?” questioned a party worker.
Muniraju, who tried to convince the workers at that time, said, “Let’s keep two-faced people away from the party and let’s give a chance to the common BJP workers in the coming days”.
