BENGALURU: More than a week after a leopard was spotted near a toll plaza in Electronics City, Forest Department officials successfully captured the animal in an operation. This follows repeated sightings of the leopard in the area.

A leopard had been spotted in Jigani industrial area for the past month, specifically around Bommasandra and Electronics City, causing widespread panic among residents. On September 17, a CCTV camera captured footage of the leopard that was moving from the Fanuc India Pvt Ltd Service Center towards the NTTF campus, near the Electronics City toll gate.

Cameras were installed in empty spaces around Helix Helipad, near NTTF and ADOT Company to trace the leopard. Three cameras were strategically placed for the operation, while thermal drone cameras monitored the leopard’s movements.

The operation ended at 11.53 pm on Tuesday, when the leopard fell into a trap in Tumakuru. Local residents heaved a sigh of relief. The Forest Department officials’ efforts were widely appreciated. Currently, the leopard is being held at Bannerghatta Biological Park, where officials will conduct a health check before releasing it into a safe and suitable location.
