CHIKKAMAGALUR, RAICHUR: A five-year-old girl died after being attacked by a leopard in Navilekal Gudda village in Kadur taluk on Thursday night.

The leopard attacked the child in a cowshed behind her house. When the family members heard the child’s screams, they rushed out and saw the leopard dragging the child towards the forest.

The locals searched for the child and found her body near the forest area. A case has been registered at the Birur police station.

Meanwhile, a cunning leopard that has been spotted frequently near Koththaddodi in Devadurga taluk of Raichur district has outsmarted the Forest department’s attempts to capture it. The leopard has visited the trap cage twice, but managed to escape without getting caught.

The leopard’s cleverness was evident in the way it approached the cage, attempted to attack the dog tied inside, and then retreated without entering the cage. The entire scene was captured on camera by the forest department’s CCTV cameras.

The leopard’s presence has been causing fear among villagers in Koththaddodi and surrounding areas, where it has been spotted over the past week. It has already killed a goat, and villagers are on high alert. Despite efforts to capture the leopard, it remains at large. The villagers are even more frightened after seeing the CCTV footage of the approximately three-year-old leopard.
