HAVERI: A leopard was killed after being run over by a vehicle while crossing the road near Konakere village in Shiggaon taluk, Haveri district on Saturday. The three-year-old leopard was hit by a speeding vehicle which fled the scene.
The forest area where the incident occurred is known for its wildlife and vehicles are expected to move slowly to avoid accidents. However, the vehicle involved in the incident was allegedly speeding, leading to the roadkill.
The leopard suffered severe facial injuries and died on the spot. Forest department officials and police are searching for the vehicle involved in the incident. The Shiggaon Forest department team has visited the scene and is investigating the matter. A case has been registered at the Tadasi police station.
