RAMANAGARA, DHARWAD: In a rather unusual incident, two male leopard cubs were killed, suspectedly by wild boars, on the outskirts of Lakkanahalli village in the taluk.
The villagers discovered the carcasses on Monday morning and informed the Forest Department officials who visited the spot and shifted the remains to a hospital for post-mortem examination.
The village is surrounded by hills which are home to several leopards. The Forest Department officials have registered a case in this regard.
Elsewhere, at Kogilageri village in Alnawar taluk of Dharwad district, a leopard killed a pet dog sleeping outside a house and carried it away on Sunday night. The attack was caught on CCTV camera.
The incident occurred at the farmhouse of Sangamesh Doopadal. Of late, there have been sightings of leopards and citizens have brought the issue to the notice of the Forest Department, but the officials did not know the exact location of the animal. With the latest incident, there is increased anxiety among the villagers.
