BENGALURU: The city police have issued certain guidelines for all private colleges on the outskirts of the city on Tuesday. This comes in the backdrop of the Layasmita murder at Presidency University in Rajanukunte and other cases involving students.
Layasmita, a student at Presidency University, was murdered on the campus by a youth for rejecting him. After the investigation, police found evidence of negligence by the college management in the murder of Layasmita and have issued new guidelines to the college under the Public Safety Act.
What are the new guidelines issued by the police?
- CCTV should be made mandatory on the campus and parking lot of the college.
- All those who enter the campus on bikes should be thoroughly checked and sent inside.
- Security should be increased at entry and exit gates.
- Students should not be allowed on the college campus without ID card.
- Police have also made arrangements for adequate security under the Public Safety Act.
- If there is a fight or any other issue on the college campus, the management board should immediately inform the local police.
“Many private colleges do not have CCTV cameras and there are lapses in security. We have instructed all our officials to be alert. Under the Public Safety Act, we have issued a few guidelines to some of the private colleges. If there is CCTV at the spot, we can prevent some cases. If something untoward happens, it will be helpful in investigation. Some small colleges cannot afford to hire private security guards, so we have planned to deploy police personnel in some places”, said Bengaluru Rural Superintendent of Police Mallikarjuna Baladandi.
