BELAGAVI: Belagavi is known for its intense rivalry between political families, particularly the Katti and Jarkiholi families. The DCC Bank election has once again sparked off a fierce battle between the two groups. Despite some tensions, the election was held peacefully on Sunday.
The election witnessed a keen contest between the Jarkiholi brothers and the team led by MLC Ramesh Katti and Lakshman Savadi. The Savadi faction won two out of seven constituencies, while the Jarkiholi faction won one constituency and celebrated their victory.
During the voting process, a scuffle broke out between the supporters of the Jarkiholi and Savadi-Katti factions. They expressed their anger against Appasaheb Kulgode of the Jarkiholi faction because they were not being given delegation forms, leading to tension. The police intervened and calmed the situation. Later, Basagouda Asangi, who is contesting from the Raibag constituency, approached the court against the workers of the Jarkiholi faction.
Meanwhile, Basagouda Asangi, a candidate from the Raibag constituency, approached the court over the issue. Some PKPS members also approached the court, challenging the voting rights of some members.
The court has directed the election authorities not to declare the results of four constituencies—Nipani, Kittur, Bailhongal and Hukkeri. The results of Ramadurga and Athani constituencies have been declared, while the results of the other four constituencies are pending due to the court order.
In Ramdurg taluk, Malanna Yadav won by 3 votes, while in Athani taluk, Lakshman Savadi won by 119 votes. In Raibag taluk, Appasaheb Kulagodi won by 56 votes. The Belagavi police have imposed prohibitory orders around the BK Model College area.
