Late actor Dr Vishnuvardhan’s memorial at Abhiman Studio demolished on court directive

BENGALURU: The memorial of late actor Dr Vishnuvardhan at Abhiman Studio in Kengeri was demolished overnight with police protection following a court directive.

Despite opposition, the removal of the memorial has sparked outrage among fans. The fans, who are devastated by the development, have expressed their anger against the government, police and the Film Chamber.

Dr Vishnuvardhan had won the hearts of Kannadigas in his 35 years of artistic service, acting in 200 Kannada films. The last rites were held at the Abhiman Studio premises at Kengeri in Bengaluru. After his passing, fans had been fighting for the memorial to be preserved. However, the High Court’s directive led to the memorial being cleared overnight.

Currently, a Vishnuvardhan memorial has already been built near Mysuru on a total area of 2.75 acres. The memorial museum showcases awards won by the actor for his films. A special statue of Vishnuvardhan has been installed and the museum features a gallery of the actor’s film journey. Visitors can view over 600 rare photos of Vishnuvardhan, as well as personal belongings and clothes used by him.

Former Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa laid the foundation stone for the Vishnuvardhan memorial on September 15, 2020. The memorial also includes two classrooms and an auditorium.
