Last rites of ghastly Nelamangala accident victims conducted as per Lingayat customs

BENGALURU: The bodies of the six members of a family from Maharashtra, who died in the ghastly accident near Nelamangala on the outskirts of Bengaluru on Saturday, were taken to their hometown on Sunday where the final rites were conducted as per Lingayat customs.

The deceased were identified as Chandram (48), an IT entrepreneur; his wife Gauribai (42), their children Diksha (12) and Arya (6), and Gnyan (8), and Vijayalakshmi (36).

The six bodies were brought in three ambulances. The family members were shocked to see the bodies. Preparations were made for the last rites at the deceased Chandram’s farm. After the family members performed puja, they performed the funeral rites as per their customs and cremated the bodies.

The family was travelling in their new Volvo SUV when a container lorry toppled over the car, resulting in their deaths. The accident occurred on the Bangalore-Tumkur highway, causing a massive traffic jam.

The Chandram family had left for their hometown in the new Volvo car, which they had recently purchased because it was the weekend. However, the container rolled over near T Begur, killing everyone in the car. The container was coming from Dabaspet to Bengaluru. The driver claimed that he had tried to avoid a collision with another car ahead of his teuck. The container truck fell on their car in a serial accident, causing several vehicles to collide with each other. Two cars, two trucks, and a school bus were involved in the accident.

Chandram, the deceased entrepreneur, was a native of Morabagi village in Jath taluk of Maharashtra. He founded the IT firm IAST in Bengaluru, employing over 300 people. The company’s staff is now left in a state of uncertainty, while the family members are devastated by the loss.
