Last rites of former MLA RV Devaraj to be conducted at Kanakapura farmhouse tomorrow

BENGALURU: The family of late former Congress MLA RV Devaraj has decided to hold his last rites on Wednesday. His mortal remains, which were at Mysuru Jayadeva Hospital, were brought to his house near Kalasipalya on Tuesday morning by ambulance.

Arrangements were made for public viewing near the Congress party office on JC Road. On his birthday tomorrow, the family is preparing to conduct the last rites at his farmhouse at Somanhalli in Kanakapura.

Ahead of his birthday, Devaraj had gone to Mysuru by car on December 1 to visit the Goddess Chamundi shrine atop Chamundi Hills. While travelling in the car, he suffered a heart attack and was immediately admitted to Apollo Hospital in Mysuru. Later, he was shifted to Jayadeva Hospital in Mysuru for further treatment, but he breathed his last without responding to treatment.

Devaraj He was born in 1957 and was a three‑time MLA and a council member for one term. In 2004, he gave up the Chamarajpet constituency to S M Krishna. He first became an MLA in 1989, served twice as chairman of KSRTC and once as chairman of the Kollegal Development Board, but never got a ministerial post.

He lost the 2018 and 2023 elections from the Chikpet constituency to BJP’s Uday Garudachar.
