BENGALURU: Buying a piece of land and building their own house is a dream for many people. Many keep their hard-earned savings just to fulfil this dream. But there are sharks out there, always on the lookout for any property, even government land, that they can encroach upon and make a fortune.

A Five acres of land has been encroached by the land mafia.

A 5-acre piece of government land by the side of Hesarghtta main road is one of the many places encroached upon by the land mafia and the place has also been fenced off. The developer has even sold 60-70 sites to buyers. Now, the buyers may be left with no site and all their savings cleaned out.

Such land grab may not be possible without the collusion of the officials. The land sharks create fake documents while officials turn a blind eye. Even if such acts are brought to their attention, they simply issue notices and forget about it, said Raghavendra, who has lodged a complaint in connection with the alleged land grab.

Raghavendra, the complainant.

“The land has been converted into more than 70 sites. The government land was converted into a layout, and no officials were bothered when illegal layouts were made. Many government places are encroached upon by the mafia. The revenue inspector and tahsildar are unaware of the existence of such a land mafia. When I registered my complaint, a notice was issued to Srinivas for encroaching upon the land. Now the government has to compensate the buyers, and the people who are benefiting will not be affected. The land mafia is a network and government officials are involved in these kinds of projects”, said Raghavendra, the complainant.
