BENGALURU: A labourer, identified as Yusuf Sharif (35) from Haveri, lost his life at a construction site, and a couple who had come to a tea shop, were injured after the scaffolding of a seven-storey building collapsed during the renovation on Mahadevapura Main Road. Based on the complaint filed by the injured Akash, an FIR has been registered against the building’s owner, Farooq, and Omar at the Mahadevapura police station.

The accident occurred around 5.30 pm on Thursday when Sharif was working on the scaffolding, and it suddenly collapsed along with the cement blocks, causing him to fall from a height and sustain fatal injuries.

A couple, Akash and Tanuja, who were sitting at a nearby tea shop, were injured in the incident. Tanuja suffered a spinal injury while Akash suffered an injury to his hand.

The building, owned by Abdul Wajid, was undergoing renovation and had several workers on site. He had not taken any permission for any extension or renovation officially from the authorities concerned.

The police have registered a case against the building owner, Abdul Wajid, for negligence and failure to ensure worker safety. Preliminary investigations suggest that the collapse was likely due to poor structural support during the renovation.

It has been alleged that he has constructed shops for commercial purposes, including a tea shop in front of the building. Whitefield Deputy Commissioner of Police K Parashuram visited the scene and inspected it and said that a case will be registered and action will be taken based on the complaint of the complainant.

The Mahadevapura police have launched an investigation into the incident and are examining the construction site. The police have confirmed that the building’s owner will face action for violating safety norms.
