RAICHUR: A labourer was killed on the spot and another was seriously injured in a blast at a granite quarry at Makapur near Lingasugur in Raichur district on Saturday.
The deceased has been identified as Venkatesh (38), from Ilkal in Bagalkot district. Mahaling, a native of Kushtagi in Koppal district, was seriously injured.
The granite quarry was operating illegally, and the owners tried to cover up the incident by shifting the body to Bagalkot. However, the body was later taken to the government hospital in Mudgal for postmortem examination. The injured labourer is undergoing treatment at a local hospital.
The incident occurred in the jurisdiction of the Mudgal police station, but a case was not registered even a day after the incident. Police officials visited the spot and conducted an investigation.
