TUMAKUR: Kunigal constituency Congress MLA Dr H D Ranganath, an orthopedic surgeon by training, himself performed a knee surgery on a poor woman on humanitarian ground. The MLA has drawn huge public appreciation for his selfless service.
Asha from Kundur village in Kunigal taluk had suffered a dislocated knee joint. She required Rs 4 lakh to Rs 5 lakh for a knee surgery, but her family was unable to afford it. Hence, she met the MLA, shared her woes and sought financial assistance from him.
After hearing her out, Dr Ranganath himself admitted the woman to Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital in Bengaluru and performed surgery on her for free.
Asha had undergone a joint surgery 10 years ago under the ‘Yeshasvini’ scheme of the government and there is no provision for another surgery for the same ailment under the scheme and patients have to pay for the surgery themselves. Thus, Asha approached the MLA.
Following this, MLA Dr Ranganath had decided to offer free surgery to 23 women who have knee pain.
