BENGALURU: Former Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy took a jibe at Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for addressing President Droupadi Murmu in singular and demanded that he should resign himself or be sacked immediately.
In a series of posts on X, Kumaraswamy noted that when Yathindra, the son of Siddaramaiah, was giving a speech in Chamarajanagar last Saturday and someone asked him a question in the singular, the police arrested him and dragged him away. “If that is the case, what is the punishment for this chief minister who addressed the President in a similar language”, he asked.
“The genuine face of this fake democrat has been revealed. He does not deserve to be in the post of Chief Minister, even for a moment. He should immediately resign and take moral responsibility for the alleged misconduct, or the Honorable Governor should dismiss him from the chief minister’s chair. This is my demand”, HDK wrote on ‘X’.
“Like Dasas said that ‘aachaaravillada naalige ninna neecha buddhiya bidu naalige’ (in Kannada) Siddaramaiah is not even close to it. The President is the First Citizen and belongs to an oppressed tribal community. Even though she is a woman, she was insulted at an awareness conference for the oppressed”, Kumaraswamy noted.

“As a lawyer and a self-proclaimed constitutional expert, he should be ashamed. This is not the way a Chief Minister addresses the Hon’ble President in a public forum. Siddaramaiah’s behaviour is an indelible stain on Karnataka. His slander is a huge insult to the country and the constitution. If Siddaramaiah, who is talking about the Constitution, democracy, and is a lawyer profession, if he has any dignity and respect for women, then he should vacate the CM’s chair at this very moment”, Kumaraswamy noted.
Later, realising his mistake of addressing the name of the President of India in singular, Siddaramaiah said that President Draupadi Murmu was insulted by not inviting her to the inauguration of the new Parliament House just because she belonged to the Dalit community. “It was painful, hurt me a lot”, he posted on X, while expressing outrage at the BJP leadership.

Siddaramaiah said that while addressing a state-level convention on awareness of the oppressed classes, held at Chitradurga on Sunday, he got a bit emotional and addressed the President in singular language in a bid to vent outrage at them”.
“As I came from a rural area, it is customary (routine) for people like me to address the elders, including father and mother in singular language. The honourble President comes from an oppressed society like mine, and I have great respect for her. I should not have address her in the singular. I apologize for this inadvertent mistake”, he posted.
