KSRTC employees to stage protest against govt over unfulfilled demands

BENGALURU: The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) employees have planned to go on strike on January 24 against the state government for not considering their demand to increase salaries among others.

The employees of four corporations will participate in the protest. They have planned to stage protest in front of the head offices of the transport utilities in all the districts. The protest is being led by the State road transport workers’ union.

The KSRTC revises the salaries of its employees every four years, but for the past six years, it has not done so. As per the rules, the pay was supposed to be increased in March 2020, but the union claimed the government has not responded in any way so far. In addition, the union had sought reduction in working hours.

Earlier, the employees went on strike for 15 days in April 2021, for fulfilment of their various demands, including wages. The staff salaries were last revised by 12.5 per cent in 2016.

“We serve over one crore people every day. We are protesting against the state government on January 24 at Freedom Park to send a warning to the government. We have presented a list of 14 demands, but Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has not responded. There are vacancies, but the staff are outsourced. We are protesting all over the state only to remind the government and bus service will not be stopped”, said Anantha Subba Rao, the president of the State Road Transport Workers Union.
