BENGALURU: Air‑pollution levels have risen sharply in Bengaluru like in Delhi. In view of this, the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board has now drawn up a new plan to curb pollution as Bengaluru expands day by day. At the same time, the amount of pollution is also increasing.
In most parts of the city, pollution has reached alarming proportions. Consequently, the Pollution Control Board has carried out a study and is preparing to install air purifiers at junctions that will suck in dust particles and supply clean air. It has sought approval from the central Ministry of Environment.
The board says that the water board’s failure to operate its sewage‑treatment plant (STP), the proliferation of high‑rise buildings, excessive vehicle traffic, and other factors have aggravated the pollution problem, and managing it is a huge challenge.
Narendra Swamy, chairman of the Pollution Control Board, said that there are so many challenges. “The board is planning to install air purifiers. We are examining purifiers to reduce pollution ; if they are at all good and advisable, the department is going to install systems in order to purify air wherever they find highly polluted places. It is under scrutiny. We did not get approval from CPCB”.
