KR Puram-Whitefield Metro line likely to open in March ahead of election

BENGALURU: The much-awaited Namma Metro service between KR Puram and Whitefield is expected  to open for the travelling public in March ahead of Assembly polls in the state.

The line between KR Puram and Whitefield will be 12.75 kilometres long and the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has completed three phases of trial runs. Two days ago, the third trial run was successfully completed at a speed of 80 kmph in just 12 minutes.

The last phase of the trial will be held on February 11, during which five trains will be running at a speed of 90 kmph. If the trial run is completed without any interruption, BMRCL will look into the remaining work and it will be open for commuters in March. The Metro Rail Safety Commissioner will conduct final inspection of the line on February 20 or 21.

“We have good news for Namma Metro riders. The line between KR Puram and Whitefiled will be open for commuters in March. Six trains have been shifted to the Whitefield depot and all the works, including signaling, on this route have been completed. We have completed the first two phases of testing and the final test will take place on February 11. We have submitted all the documents to CRMS”, said Anjum Parwez , Managing Director of BMRCL.
