KOPPAL: After 10 years, the Yellalinga murder case, which drew widespread attention nationwide, is nearing its conclusion. The Koppal district sessions court is set to deliver its verdict in the case on October 3 and has directed that all the accused be produced before it on September 23.
The case involves the murder of Yellalinga, a student from Kanakapura in Koppal district’s Kanakagiri taluk, who was killed on January 11, 2015 at Koppal railway station. Yellalinga had raised questions the local system in his village, which allegedly led to his murder.
Nine individuals, including minister Shivaraj Tangadagi’s close associate Hanmesh Nayak, were accused and charged in connection with the murder. The accused individuals are Hanmesh Nayak, his son Mahantesh Nayak, Manoj Patil, Balan Gowda, Kada Manja, Nandeesh, Parashurama, Yamanurappa and another unidentified individual.
All the accused are now out on bail. The CID had conducted an investigation in the case and submitted a chargesheet. After a decade-long trial, the court’s verdict is eagerly awaited, with many expecting justice for Yellalinga and his family.
