KARWAR: With the rains abating, arecanut farmers are now worried concerned about ‘Kole roga’ (fruit rot disease) striking their plantations in Bisalakoppa village of Sirsi taluk in Uttara Kannada district.
The continuous rains in the Malnad region for the last two months have led to a rise in Kole roga in arecanut plantations.
Arecanut farmers are facing huge losses due to the Kole roga disease. Around 200 acres of arecanut plantations have been affected, and farmers are distraught. At present, although the price of the arecanut is good, due to the increase in Kole roga, the farmers have suffered losses in yield.
