BENGALURU: Every time it rains, Kogilu Cross area in Yelahanka gets flooded. Water from the rajakaluve and rainwater enters homes in Kurlappa Layout, Maruti Nagar. Despite numerous complaints to the BBMP, no solution has been found.
To combat this issue, some residents are opting for “house lifting,” a technique inspired by Japan. They are using hydraulic toe jacks to lift their homes up by 5 feet. This method is also being used in other flood-prone areas like Mahadevapura.
Owner of the house, Yashodha Srinivas, said, “We constructed the house 20 years back; but nothing has been done to tackle the flooding. Last year, we suffered a flood due to heavy rainfall. My son suggested the plan of lifting the house after watching videos on YouTube. The house was lifted four feet from the bottom. Over 150 to 250 jacks have been used. We have spent over Rs 20 lakh for this. We raised the house for the safety of our family from flooding”.
