Kodigehalli police arrest 3 transgenders, auto driver for robbing airport-bound passengers

BENGALURU: The Kodigehalli police have arrested a gang of four, including three transgenders and an autorickshaw driver, for robbery of individuals on the airport road in the wee hours. They have been identified as Sneha, Avishka, Deepika and Prakah, the auto driver.

Transgenders are increasingly targeting airport-bound passengers in the wee hours. They get on the road at 4 am and indulge in robbery between 5 am and 8 am.

Auto driver Prakash used to go around the city with transgenders. They are allegedly targeting individuals who are standing alone with luggage on airport road and robbed them of all their belongings.

The trangenders would first ask for money, then grab the individual’s money, mobile phone and other belongings and flee from the place. Most of the time, it was techies waiting for cabs in heavy traffic areas who got caught in their trap. The gang also targeted bikers who were riding alone.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, North East Division, Lakshmi Prasad said, “The gang’s modus operandi was revealed when a 70-year-old woman filed a complaint with the Kodigehalli police. The three transgenders approached that elderly woman on the pretext of seeking alms. When the woman gave money to the three transgenders, they forcibly snatched the wallet from her. A case was registered under Section 392. With this case, a gang of robbers came to light. After preliminary investigation, it was revealed that the gang was involved in several robberies in different police station limits”.
