HASSAN: A school teacher, who was kidnapped by a relative for refusing his marriage proposal, was rescued from Nelyadi and handed over to her family within seven hours of the incident. The accused Ramu has been arrested by the police.
Ramu had kidnapped the teacher Arpitha when she was on her way to school near Bittagowdanahalli. Ramu is Arpitha’s relative from her mother’s side and he had proposed to marry her many times. When she and her parentd did not agree, he planned to kidnap her.
On Wednesday morning, Ramu and his friend pretended to be engaged in a phone conversation near her house. When she came on to the main road, they pulled her inside a car with the help of his friends and kidnapped her. Ramu even tried to marry her forcefully in the car.
A case was registered at the Hassan town police station in this regard and three police teams had been formed to nab the kidnappers. The police got a clue that Arpitha was being taken towards Madikeri through Kodlipet route, based on their mobile tower signals.
The Hassan police obtained the help of their Kodagu counterparts and the police finally traced the car near Nelyadi in Dakshina Kannada and arrested him. They had planned to go to Madikeri, but changed the route to Mangaluru to mislead the police. Arpitha and Ramu were found in the car near Nelyadi while the rest escaped. The police arrested the accused and seized the car.
The accused is being interrogated by the police. The family members of the teacher and the public appreciated the Hassan police for their quick response.
