BENGALURU: After harmful elements were found in samples of tomato ketchup, experts have warned that consuming it and tomato sauce can have severe effects on children’s health. Artificial colours are used to make the sauce appear thicker and more red and high amounts of sodium benzoate are used, increasing the sodium content.

The sodium benzoate makes the sauce taste better and appear dark red, but excessive sodium can lead to high blood pressure. Consuming high-sodium foods can lead to kidney problems and excessive sodium can also lead to heart problems in children.
